Alaska Part 4 // VSCO Film 05
In honor of the release of VSCO Film 05, I decided to re-edit some of the photos from last year's adventure in Alaska. I was excited to see that the Kodak Ektar 100 film was included in the release because it is one of the few films that I have actually used in film photography. However, while experimenting with the presets I found a couple of films that immediately clicked with me. My first surprise was the Agfa Vista 100. This film adds a punch to images with unique vividness. Last night, I used the Agfa Vista 100 to re-edit photos from a baseball game and I was very pleased with the results. Below are a few more examples of my edits with the Agfa. (Check out the contrast in the salmon photos!) The other film preset that I'm excited about is the Kodak UltraMax 400. I used this film to re-edit some of the bear pictures. With a few extra adjustments I felt that it really expanded the dynamic range of the shots. Not only did it increase the details in the shadows of the images but it enhanced the orange and reds, which really made the bears stand out in their environment. Anyways, those are just some of my initial thoughts on VSCO Film 05. If you haven't tried out the film pack, I totally recommend it.

The VSCO Film Pack 04, Slide, was released yesterday so I could not wait to process some of my landscape shots from my recent Alaska trip. This is my favorite release from VSCO. I really like the past film packs and have used them the majority of the time in my workflow but this one definitely presents my type of "film" look. Here are a few examples of my edits with the new pack. The captions show the preset that was used. Of course all the images have further adjustments but these presets really give a great starting point. I found that the Fuji Velvia presets kick ass with landscape photos.
