I photographed the 2015 Gold Cup Final between Mexico and Jamaica.
The crowd was electric. I felt goosebumps as I made my way to the pitch. Listening to the fans sing the Mexican national anthem was intense. Unfortunately for Jamaica, Mexico (finally) played their best soccer of the tournament, even without several of their regular starters. Andres Guardado and Jonathan Dos Santos were in top form and controlled the midfield for El Tri. Tecatito Corona, dazzled with his feet and scored a dagger from outside the box.
For this night, Mexico fans were able to enjoy a game of fútbol. The drama from the semis was a past recollection. Many say Mexico didn't belong in the final, barely scraping by Panama with controversial penalty calls by the refs. All of that now was ignored, the only thing that mattered was Mexico lifting the Gold Cup for a 7th time.
The #USMNT now awaits #ElTri on October 9th, for a sole playoff match to decide the regional ticket to the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2017 in Russia.
